So, where was I, oh yes, we were walking out of Buca di Beppo and everyone decided that they wanted to go to Coldstone. But before I go on, this won’t be funny unless you understand the circumstance in which I ate dinner and a little background information.

I normally go to Bible College three nights of the week. However, due to a change in leadership, I need to miss Thursday nights for the rest of the semester. This sucks since I now have to write a paper every week for the class that I miss. Shucks, people came over so now I need to continue later again. Boy, this story is being built up and I hope it meets the expectation that have set up…

So last night all of the Ignite leaders went to dinner at Buca di Beppo. It was the first time I had ever been there and it was loads of fun. We ordered 3 dishes between the 6 of us and we still had leftovers. Plus, it came out to only like $10 a head so the prices were great.

The only really interesting thing that happened during the dinner hour occurred in the men’s room of all places. I guess the men’s room has pictures of men urinating all over the wall and apparently it’s a big curiosity. As I finished my “business” and was washing my hands, the door opens widely and the hostess brings in 6 women wearing cowboy hats. They came in just to look around. Never mind that there may be guys peeing in the corner. So of course I noted that she (the hostess) had to take us to the women’s bathroom (it’s only fair, isn’t it?). After our brief interuption, I went back to my seat.

As the night winded down, we prepared to leave and as we were walking out, the hostess calls us and tells us that she is ready to take us into the ladies’ room. So she opens the door to the ladies’ room and lets us in. This in itself would have been funny, but what made it even more funny was that Kellie and Jara were already in there. If you could imagine the look on Kellie’s face when she saw us walk in, it was priceless. But the story doesn’t end there, however, I must go eat dinner so I’ll finish up in a bit.

An update

Sorry, here’s an update of a previous reference. The “author of confusion” scripture is “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (1 Corinthians 14:33).

Feeling jealous

When the self-proclaimed “comment whore” is updating his journal more than I am it becomes necessary for me to keep up with him. So here’s a quick update on my life…

Right now things are going well. My plate’s a bit full with the happenings in ministry, but that’s okay, God has a plan for me (although sometimes I wish He would clue me in). My nights just got a little busier since I now need to be present at the Thursday night MiniChurch that was formerly shepherded by Linda. Oh well, such is life. Because of this, I am missing class on Thursdays for the rest of the semester. Great, more papers to write.

On the ministry side, we have our Senior Luau coming up which will involve quite a bit of effort on my part. Too much effort if you ask me. Then immediately there after, we have camp. I think that the only thing I need to do at camp is teach one session so it won’t be too bad. Th only prep work will be for the teaching (I may have to play worship too, but I am trying to get out of it). Then, three weeks after that, I am going to Japan. I’m not really looking forward to the trip but I am praying that God will change my heart and I will grow excited about going.

On a personal note, I am glad that I am able to “play catch” with one of my friends. It’s just like old times. I just threw him a strike (a nice, slow pitch at that) so I hope he connects and puts one in the bleachers. If not, I hope he at least gets a single (beware of the dreaded whiff). It’s nice to be able to have fun like that again since it’s been awhile since we threw around the ol’ horsehide.

As far as my countdown, I’m not really sure what’s happening. I wonder if God’s changing my attitude. I guess only time will tell and I’ll have to wait a few more weeks to find out. There is much uncertainty right now. I’ve been praying on this for the last few days, but I haven’t received a “stop” from God yet, so that only adds to my confusion (luckily, God is not the author of confusion, so I expect things to clear up soon). Oh well, God is still good no matter what happens. I have still been blessed enormously so I really cannot complain.

I found this little gem of scripture during my quiet time this morning…

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:4-8

Without giving a sermon, this stood out because God has given to us better promises than we could ever imagine. Then in verse 8 he tells us that if we are full of faith, virtue (moral excellence), knowledge, temperance (self control), patience, godliness, brotherly kindness (love for other Christians) and charity (love for everyone) we will be fruitful and full of life in our knowledge of God. I need to work on this so I can exude the fruits of the Spirit (see Galatians 5) in my life. Until next time (take that “comment whore”)…

So today well fairly well. I was supposed to play golf with the Ark guys at 6:30am, but I couldn’t wake up so I then proceeded to sleep in until 10:30. That was actually really good because I needed the rest. My day was starting out fine.

I had to go to a suprise 50th birthday party for Rob, one of the pastors at my church. Again, everything was going well. The party was fine and I got to see some people that I haven’t seen in awhile. I was nice. My day was still proceeding fine.

My stepdad and sister had their birthdays last month and so we went to dinner and saw a show. Again, dinner was pleasant and we got to see Beehive, a 60’s-ish revue style show, it was actually pretty good. It was at Manoa Valley Theatre. Everything was going well and I thought that my day was going to end well. We only had the drive home.

Of course, if there’s ever problems, it’s always on the ride home. So this was the big problem. Apparently my cousin Joel, who doesn’t really do anything, went to our last youth camp. It was his first camp and he didn’t really know anyone. On the last day there was a game that involved fish. I wasn’t there so I don’t know all the details, but apparently he hit Mikey with a dead fish. Mikey then proceeded to wrestle him down and made him eat the fish. This incident was mentioned to my mom from his mom (my Aunty) and it bothered them. Of course, they had to ask my opinion.

I said, I didn’t see anything wrong with what Mikey did. I then told them that I would have done the same thing and that I thought that most of the guy youth leaders would have done the same thing (except Gabe). My mom and sister thought that Mikey went “too far” because he’s a leader. I said that I didn’t think so. For one, Mikey wasn’t mad, he was just playing. Secondly, Joel is not any worse for this happening and now he knows better. They said that this embarrassed Joel so it shouldn’t have been done. I explained to them that the theory of retaliation and escalation. They said why does Mikey have to retaliate or escalate?

I have come to the conclusion that we were just on different wavelengths. I asked, how far is too far? My sister started getting all worked up and claiming that Joel didn’t expect any of this. I told her, Joel is a guy, I know he expected retaliation. They don’t understand. It’s kind of a pity. They’ll never understand that if a guy punches me, I will punch him back, and yes, it will be harder. She thinks that I can punch him back, but only as hard as he punched me. I have the feeling that she will never understand and she will just get worked up.

It really is too bad that they don’t understand how guys think otherwise they wouldn’t have made such a big deal about it. I told them to ask Joel, because I bet he isn’t dwelling on this one event (because it really isn’t a big deal, they just are making it a big deal). Hopefully he’ll talk to them and straighten them out.

As for me, I have bigger things to worry about…

Canned!

Well, that was quick. After doing all that preparing I found out this afternoon that I was canned. I was supposed to open the Christian Life Development Discipleship class, but due to a lack of enrollment our class was cancelled. Ahhh, such is life. It’s a good thing that I didn’t really do much to prepare or I would have been much more upset.

On a brighter note, I just had my first performance review and I did well on that. Everyone seems to be excited with what’s happening with Ignite. At least I don’t have to teach this Sunday.

Hope you all a great weekend. Be Safe!

Got to play nine holes at Kahuku Golf Course with my friends Kala and Derrick. I got to see Eleanor for the first time in like 8 months. I really missed her. Too bad I don’t get to go to Kahuku more often. Anyway, I did pretty well. I only hit one green in regulation (which I promptly birdied), but I still had three other pars and I missed a two foot putt for par on another hole, so all in all I had a really good nine holes. I can’t wait to play again. I really feel that my irons are coming around.
